About Sun Gold Tattoo & Barber

Sun Gold Tattoo & Barber operates from North Miller Road in Scottsdale, combining tattoo artists and barbers within one business. Its tattoo roster has a particularly interesting mix of artistic backgrounds: El began tattooing in Tucson in 1997 and favors American Traditional work, while Paul Ruiz developed his artistic approach through oil painting before beginning his tattoo apprenticeship in 2010. Paul specifically identifies anime, colorful tattoos and black-and-grey realism among the projects he enjoys.

The differences between these artists make Sun Gold useful for clients comparing distinct approaches to tattoo design. El's traditional tattoo background includes imagery such as roses, skulls and religious iconography. Paul's interest in reconstructing shapes and shading offers another direction for illustrative, anime-inspired and realism-oriented projects. Hailey adds a background in drawing, painting and mixed media, having started her tattooing journey in Miami in 2022 before relocating to Arizona.

Sun Gold's combination of barbering and tattooing also distinguishes it from tattoo-only studios in Scottsdale. Customer accounts describe visits involving both services, including a group of nine family members receiving matching tattoos following a barber appointment the previous day. The shop's Miller Road location, rather than the center of Old Town's entertainment district, gives it a different practical setting from several other Scottsdale studios.
